Sunday Photo Story – Puri Rath Yatra

Puri Rath Yatra or Car Festival is festive event held in the months of June/July (depending on the local calendar) in the state of Odisha in India. During this event the idol of Lord Jagannath along with the idols of two other deities are paraded along the streets of Puri in three huge rath’s (chariots) for nine days starting at the Jagannath Temple. It takes nine more days for the chariots to return back from where they started.

This event is visited my millions of people and even tourists. The Hindu population here believe that participating in this event will lead them to heaven after death.
